MVHS Cross Country Travels To Chaparral Meet

MVHS Cross Country team competed at a four-school meet at Chaparral High School last week.

The Moapa Valley High School Cross Country Team competed against three 4-A schools in a meet at Chaparral High School on Wednesday, September 14.

Moapa girls team runner DJ Carter finished the 2.6 mile course 6th out of 36 girls with a time of 20:44.5. Kenna McMurray clocked in at 22:40.4. Victoria Karvonen ended with at time of 24:18.2. Wiebke Roehrs put on the finishing touches with 26:36.1.

In the boys team event, Skyler Whipple continued is excellent performance with a 16:10.3, coming in third overall in the meet. Tyler Reynolds had a time of 17:38.2. Garrett Traasdahl ran a time of 19:00.3. Clifford Ely-Scott was right behind Garrett at 19:36. Markus Enosa came in at 20:01. And Ryan Leachman came in only seven seconds behind Markus at 20:08. Dakota Shyface finished with a 21:58. Devin Mortensen crossed the finish line at 22:58.

The Moapa coaches were pleased with the local runners’ performance at the meet.

“These kids are awesome!” said boys coach Gary Watkins. “They have an incredible work ethic and they work well as a team. As coaches we have a great opportunity to mould character and progress them towards their goal of a state championship. We have every confidence that they can do it!”
