The Apologia Forum held its first meeting on Wednesday, September 14 at the Moapa Valley Library. Pastor Jason Ham of Calvary Community Church moderated the forum, which is a discussion of pre-selected topics. This discussion topic was “Where Do We Come From?”

Much of the evening was devoted to an explanation of how the forum would be conducted. The forum is meant to provide an opportunity for discussion among participants, explaining viewpoints, and backing up those viewpoints with evidence. The point is to help strengthen your own faith by questioning and scrutinizing your views, Ham said.

Ham explained that the forum is a place for discussion, not to argue over which faith is better or worse. Each week volunteers will make a presentation supporting or opposing a predetermined topic. Forum members will then open discussion on the presentation, examining and challenging the topic.

“In the discussion among the participants, your faith may be strengthened, or perhaps your faith may be questioned,” Ham said. “Hopefully you will want to be challenged and feel comfortable having your views scrutinized.”

The Apologia Forums will be held at the Moapa Valley Library on Wednesdays from 5:45 to 6:45 pm. The public is welcome to join in at any time.

Depending on the amount of presentations each evening, the presentations will be anywhere from five minutes to 20 minutes.

This week’s topic will be “Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?”
