MVHS Forensics Shine in California, Sparkle in Vegas
Pirate speakers had a busy two weeks preparing for and traveling to Long Beach, CA and Las Vegas to compete in the University of California Long Beach tournament and Green Valley High School Invitational. The team performed well in both tournaments, finishing eighteenth of seventy in Long Beach and fourth of twenty-two at Green Valley, despite all the distractions from Homecoming.

Tigers Top Discussion at MVTAB Meeting
Members of the MVTAB heard a report that a special use permit to house a tiger at the residence of Mary Stoven-Kirkland was denied by the Clark County Commissioners after a recommendation of the same by the Town Board, due to concerns and objections by Stoven-Kirkland’s neighbors. Stoven-Kirkland has decided to appeal that decision, although a date for the appeal hearing has not yet been set.

MVHS Groundbreaking and Homecoming
The Moapa Valley High School Groundbreaking was held this week, amid Homecoming ceremonies. CCSD School Board President Mark Schofield; Grant Bowler, former MVHS Principal; Dr. Brian Cram, Superintendent; and R. Larry Moses, MVHS Principal were among the officials breaking ground at the ceremony.

Clark County Schedules Survey Work for Fair Grounds
In a unanimous vote, the Clark County Commissioners voted to take over maintenance of the Clark County Fair Grounds at their last meeting. According to Jay Whipple, member of the Clark County Fair Board, the next step is to encourage as much donation of time, materials, and even buildings as possible so that the $300,000 already available can be used mostly for construction.
