The Grant M. Bowler Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) hosted its annual Grandparents Day on Thursday, October 13. The popular event and its accompanying book fair was held this year in the Fairgrounds Fine Arts Building. This was a big improvement from the crowds of years past. Grandma Totten, who came with her four grandchildren said about the new changes in location, “I love it here.”
Dozens of tables were lined with smiling faces. The self-serve breakfast lines were never longer than a few families.
Dawn Waite the Grandparents Day Committee Chair was pleased with the event.
“It was a lot of fun,” she said. “We had more room here and everything went very smoothly. A big thanks to the County for letting us use the building and also to all the volunteers who helped make it happen”
Waite recruited lots of parent volunteers to help with the event including members of her own family.
The breakfast consisted of something new to the annual event. There were 32 casseroles made with bread, eggs, bacon and cheese. A few grandparents even asked for the recipe.
Muffins, bananas and milk were served also.
Grandparents and children could have photos taken on bales of hay set up outside of the building.
One grandparent was thrilled with the day. “You guys even ordered beautiful weather for us,” she said.
