LETTER: Too Much Control
I feel compelled to set aside my anonymity and come out in support of the Bledsoes of Quail Hollow Farm (Health District Crashes Party At Quail Hollow Farm: Progress, October 26, 2011). Here they are trying to demonstrate the superiority of locally grown, fresh, clean and responsibly prepared food. This is such a threat to the local Health district beaurocrats that they have to come up with the most ridiculous excuse to try and shut the dinner down.
The horrible wrong that the Bledsoes perpetrated was to serve food of “unknown” origin! The question then is; unknown to whom?
The Bledsoes and all the folks at the dinner certainly knew where the food came from. But none of the food came from the local supermarket. Oh No! No! No! This MUST be a crime!
It can’t possibly be safe to eat food not brought in from South America or purchased from China. It doesn’t have the right stamps on it. You have no receipts from where you purchased it. Sorry– I am so angry I am starting to rant and rave.
The real lesson here is that WE the PEOPLE have allowed our government to take too much control over our lives and so infringe on our basic freedoms way too much. When a government agency feels it can and should control every morsel of food in our food supply even in the mistaken belief that it is “protecting” the people, then we have arrived at the point where that government agency must be reigned in. This is a great wake up call. It is only one of many.
I must say that food is necessary to life and so if any power controls our food supply then we are in great peril of losing all. Our efforts aren’t needed on Wall Street. They are needed right here at home.
