Logandale youngster Jordan Taylor competed in the breakaway roping event at the WJRA final rodeo in Alamo, Nevada last weekend.
Logandale resident Jordan Taylor competed in the season final event of the Wrangler Junior Rodeo Association (WJRA) in Alamo, Nevada over the weekend and came home with an All-Around championship for his age division for both the event and for the whole season. This is the second straight WJRA all around championship season that the 13 year old Taylor has won in tough competition against 15-20 other boys in his division.
Taylor competed in several of the rodeo events including breakaway roping, team roping, goat tying, flag racing and steer daubing.
Last weekend he took a first place in the flagracing event with a time of 8.5 seconds on Saturday and 8.3 seconds on Sunday.
He also scored a first place in goat tying with a time of 9.3 seconds on Saturday and 11.1 seconds on Sunday.
The season all-around championship title includes scores from a series of 12 rodeos in southern Nevada over the past year.
In addition to those 12 events, this year, Taylor has traveled to 12 Junior High Rodeos where he also won the Nevada State All Around Championship and Rookie of the Year for 2011. He also qualified for the Junior HIgh National Finals in Gallup, New Mexico where he earned runer-up Rookie of the Year and placed 10th in the nation in team roping with his partner Jarad Sanford of Boulder City.
Taylor also qualified for the National Little Britches Rodeo Association finals by competing in 13 rodeos in southern Nevada and Utah. At the Little Britches finals in Pueblo, Colorado, Taylor was the finals champion in flag racing and ended up second in the world championship standings.
Jordan’s father, Ron Taylor, expressed appreciation for many local residents who have supported Jordan in his rodeo activities.
“We appreciate John and Sheryl Jarrel who have provided him with goats and also Tom Collins who has provided calves for roping practice,” Ron Taylor said. “Tim McDermott and Joel Wells have also helped him greatly with his team roping.”
Jordan is a 7th grader who is being home-schooled and attends classes at Mack Lyon Middle School. He spends a lot of time practicing for his events but he also enjoys shooting and riding ATVs.
