The Pirates traveled to Boulder City on Thursday, October 27 and destroyed the Eagles 41-19 to end the Eagles’ season.

What was established from the start was that the Eagles were going to go down swinging and that’s exactly what they did. The game was very aggressive. Several personal fouls were called on Boulder. But Coach Lewis called out to the Pirates in the field and on the bench “we take care of it on the field” and that’s just what the Pirates did.

After spotting Boulder a 14-7 lead in the 1st quarter, the Pirates scored four touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to send the Eagles running for cover during halftime.

The first Pirate touchdown came with Conner Mortensen 3 yards out to give Moapa a 7-0 led. Then came Boulder’s two scores and the 14-7 1st quarter lead.

Moapa’s flurry of second quarter scores started with Mortensen from 4 out. Then the next one came from 7 yards out for three of his total five touchdowns on the night.

Moapa’s kickoff went just over the second line of Eagles and bounced there when a group of Pirates and one Eagle piled up for the ball. Moapa recovered it and proceeded to score again. This time Sean McConnell scored from 13 yards.

Still not finished Mortensen punched in another from 18 yards as Moapa took a commanding 35-14 halftime led.

The Eagles scored once in the 3rd when Shelly caught Miller’s second touchdown pass of the game and final score of the Boulder City season.

In the fourth quarter Moapa scored once more when Mortensen took it in from 4 yards out as the Pirates cruised to the Southern 3A title and first round home game against the Dawgs of Virgin Valley Saturday at 1:00 pm.

The Pirates had 223 yards rushing with Conner Mortensen taking 137 of them.

The Pirate defense held Boulder City to 99 yards rushing with 82 of that coming from Steel taking advantage of a Pirate mistake and running the ball down the sideline for a touchdown. Boulder City had -2 yards rushing for the second half.

The Eagles threw for 105 yards on 8-16 passing. Miller threw for two touchdowns and a pick.

Moapa’s Watters threw for 74 yards on 6-10 passing.

The Pirates had a total of 297 yards offense to Boulder City’s 204.

Saturday there will be a packed stadium. Gates will open at 12P.M. Ticket prices have increased to $7 for adults and $5 for students. No passes will be allowed except NIAA passes.

The visitors concession stand will be opened and run by the MVHS Band to raise funds for the trip to Reno; provided the Pirates make it that far.
