Moapa Valley Progress
The girls soccer season came to an amazing close earlier this month. Despite an early season coaching change, the lady Pirates finished in second place and advanced to the Division finals for the first time in team history. They finished the season with a 4-2 league record.
On Friday the November 4 the Lady Pirates played Virgin Valley in the first round of the playoffs and won 2-1. The first half of the match ended 0-0. But in the second half Virgin Valley scored the first goal right after the break.
Cindy Meyer scored to tie the score at 1-1 for Moapa just a couple minutes after the Virgin Valley score.
At the 15 minute mark Angie Shamaneck sent a pass to Brandy Thompson who scored to give Moapa the game winner.
It was then the Moapa defense time to shine as Makayla Jackson, Josie Queritt, Bethany Sprague, Alexa Seely and Breanne Harding held the Dawgs offense scoreless throughout the rest of the game. Goalie Brittany Harding allowed just the one Virgin Valley goal.
With the win the Lady Pirates advanced to the championship game against Boulder City. There they were beaten 5-0 by the Eagles.
Coach Yamashita and Coach Leming want to thank the girls for their hard work and dedication in a great season.
Scoring results for the season: Cindy Meyer had 15 goals, Hanna Leavitt and Brandy Thompson each had 5 goals. Tylee Evans had 2 with Aliece Todd, Shanna Gongos and Aubrey Benson each having 1 goal apiece.
