Moapa Kids Get To Compete For A Thanksgiving Turkey

Seven kids from three Moapa families took home all but one of the eight first place turkey awards last week during the first ever Clark County Recreation Department Turkey Toss in the Moapa Recreation Center.

It was a wild competition with 25 kids competing to see who could throw a rubber chicken, a football or an actual frozen turkey the farthest.

The contest was set up so that one girl and one boy could win a turkey in each of four age categories, according to Gail Lindsay, a Clark County recreation specialist. Lindsay works in the Moapa rec center and set up the turkey toss.

The categories were kindergarten and 1st grade competitors who threw a rubber chicken; 2nd and 3rd grade competitors who threw a football underhand; 4th through 6th grades, and 7th through 9th grades, in which competitors in both groups threw a frozen 10-pound turkey.

All the kids did an outstanding job. They included:

Kindergarten — 1st grade girls — Sienna Neilson, Gracie Herring; boys, Gary Leavitt, Jayden Smith, Cole Lindsay;

2nd – 3rd grade girls, Victoria Herring, Layah Carvagal, Eden Leavitt; boys, Peyton Neilson, Jamie Carvagal, Bostyn Ray Reynolds, Cooper Olsen;

4th – 6th grade girls, Lily Leavitt, Sicaly May Reynolds, Xoehit Frias; boys, Joey Herring, Alex Paulino, Houston Neilson, Samuel Leavitt, Gabriel Hernandez;

7th — 9th grade girls, Alexus Leavitt, Chyna Shy Reynolds, Desi Jenkins; boys, Moises Ramirez, Israel Irias.

Those who won turkeys were Moises Ramirez, Alexus Leavitt, Joey Herring, Lily Leavitt, Peyton Neilson, Victoria Herring, Gary Leavitt and Sienna Neilson.
