Zephyr Singers Set To Make A Holiday Come-back

The members of the Zephyr Singers are preparing for some special holiday performances in the upcoming week.

Moapa Valley residents won’t want to miss a special Christmas concert coming up on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:00, when an Evening of Music will be presented by the Zephyr Singers and the Zephyr Strings at the Old Logandale School. The program is free and open to the public. (Donations gratefully accepted.)

It is a comeback concert because the Zephyr Singers, who gave programs in the valley from 2004 to 2009, have been in a state of suspended animation for the last two years while their director, Gaye Nelson, was on a mission with her husband, Jack, in Dallas, Texas. This will be the group’s first public performance since Nelson has returned and gotten the group going again.

Many of the current singers were in the Zephyrs originally; some are welcome new recruits. All the singers and instrumentalists involved are Moapa Valley residents.

Audience members will enjoy hearing their friends and neighbors sing and perform carols old and new, from “Ding, Dong Merrily on High” and “Winter Wonderland” to the whimsical “Shepherd’s Pipe Carol” and the elegant reverence of “What Sweeter Music.”

The 24-voice choir will be aided by several keyboard accompanists, including Michelle Anderson, Sherrie Whitney, and Mitzi Bender.

Also on the program will be the Zephyr Strings playing some Christmas numbers (including everyone’s favorite, “O Holy Night”) and accompanying the choir. Be sure to listen for a piping piccolo in the “Shepherd’s Pipe Carol!”

For an exciting preview, come to the Festival of Trees on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 10:00 a.m. to hear the Zephyrs sing a few of their lovely Christmas numbers.

“Enjoying the sounds and sights of Christmas at the Festival of Trees will help support OLSHACS,” Nelson said. “And we are sure the concert on the following Tuesday evening will be a come-back concert in another way; you will want to come back and hear the Zephyrs again soon!”
