LETTER: SNHD Did NOT Crash A Private Party

The article and editorial on the Quail Hollow Farm (QHF) Dinner (Health District Crashes Party At Quail Hollow Farms: Progress, October 26, 2011) were the most biased, tainted and obscure journalism I have read.

To compare the Plymouth, MA Pilgrims “pot-luck dinner” to the QHF’s commercial dinner is outlandish, atrocious and ludicrous!

The QHF became a one night stand restaurant, subject to the licenses, permits, inspections, trained and carded employees, and regulations/codes as any commercial food establishment (CFE) when the guests paid for the meal.

The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) did not crash a “dinner party” at QHF, but sent a Nevada Dept. of Health (NDH) inspector to QHF as promised the Bledsoe’s 24 hours earlier. The trained CFE inspector must enforce the codes strictly and equally to all CFE(s). Government inspectors have absolute power and entry to private and public domain to perform their duties.

The NDH codes are set forth by educated and knowledgeable government employees, to meet or exceed the codes of the Federal Dept. of Health. The people, have the right to expect the utmost in their safety and health when purchasing food in the U.S.

“This is an absolute outrage!” wrote Progress Editor, Vernon Robison in a column that week. What!? The failure of the Bledsoe’s to get informed on the CFE requirements. The failure of the Bledsoe’s to meet with the SNHD at a more appropriate time. The failure of the authors to distinguish the difference between a CFE, a “private dinner party”, or a pot-luck-dinner. The pen scribes desire to eradicate that to which he is clueless. The rhetoric editorial written as a tribute to triviality and futility.

What are the law enforcement duties and responsibilities if summoned to assist a government inspector and were they followed and to what degree? Did the responding officers provide the same enforcement at QHF as would be provided at a Las Vegas restaurant and so forth?

Mr. Robison wrote: “Now were there anything impure or unhealthy about the evenings feast or its preparation: absolutely not.”

Does this matter? Absolutely not! NDH codes as applied to CFE’s were in violation and the violation was grievous enough to close the doors of any CFE! Only a mystic, psychic or clairvoyant could state absolutely nothing was wrong with the food without it being tested by the Center for Disease Control, Atlanta, GA!

  1. Let the buyer beware, Dr. Long is selling the “snake oil” of safety through government at the expense of liberty. There will not or ever be a government bureau or its regulations that will make us or our food safe; it concerned and committed individuals that actually make it happen. I would rather take my chances on a bad day at the Quail Hollow Farm than at the safest SNHD inspected facility.

This is the language of the quintessential bureaucrat, make a note because it sounds reasonable and convincing. It is this perspective, along with “hope and change” that is destroying our Country because it stifles individual initiative.
