Boys Southern 3A

Within four days of starting the season, Boulder City played six games and went 3-3. They started the season with Sunrise Mountain and were beaten 66-63.They travelled to Vegas and played two games in a tournament then a good Chaparral Cowboy’s team and lost by 15, 59-44 in the third game of the day for the Eagles.

The Eagles played in the annual Lake Mead tournament in Vegas and won the Blue division championship. The Eagles made the final game with wins over Lake Mead 40-39, and then routed Lutheran California 54-10.

Fridays action saw Boulder City beat Pahrangant Valley, 57-36; then The Meadows, 54-48 in the semi-final.

This set up a game against Fernley on Saturday. The Eagles won that matchup 49-47.

Nate Hafen was named tournament MVP and had teammate Blake Worrell join him on the all-tourney team.

Virgin Valley started the season with two losses: the first against the Pine View Panthers in Washington, Utah 53-46; then the second to Chaparral 64-50 at home.

The Dawgs then made the long trip north to Winnemucca to play in the Lowry tournament. Day one of the tourney Virgin Valley beat 4A North Valleys of Sparks 76-67. On Day two Virgin Valley beat Tonopah 60-26 then Owyhee 73-55 to set up a championship game with Lowry on Saturday at the Winnemucca events center.

Lowry out rebounded the Bulldogs 54-19 and beat the Dawgs 79-65 to win the tourney. Virgin Valley is 3-3.

Boys Northern 3A

Lowry has started the season with a perfect record of 4-0. They won their own tourney by beating Virgin Valley and got to the finals by beating Owyhee 93-64, McDermitt 49-46 then Tonopah 56-9.

Fernley came south this past weekend and went 3-1 and got beat by Boulder City in the Lake Mead final. Their leading scorer is Cade Knutson. Their scores this past week were 32-20 over Pahranagat Valley, 56-17 over Oasis Christian of Las Vegas, 47-37 over Lake Mead and the final a loss against Boulder City 49-47.

Sparks is 3-1 with wins over Lassen (Cal) 77-64, Reed 68-45 and last Saturday against Dayton 57-39. Their leading scorer is Brian Morgan at 14.5 a game. As a team they are averaging 64 a game.

Spring Creek and Elko have played one game each and have won them. Spring Creek over Minico Idaho 53-45 and Elko over Minico Idaho 45-35.

Dayton beat Wooster 65-54 and lost to Sparks 57-39. Truckee is 2-1 with a wins over Quincy Cal 66-37, Portola 57-26 and a loss to Lassen 50-35.

South Tahoe is 1-2 with their lone win against Wooster 63-45 and losses against Carson 59-50 and Central Valley California 55-35.

Fallon is 1-1 their win is against Quincy 58-46 and their loss is against Lassen 59-45.

Girls Southern 3A

Virgin Valley went 3-2 in their first week of basketball. They were beaten by Pine View 55-50 then won 3 straight 51-40 over Chaparral, 62-34 over Damonte Ranch in the first game of the Lowry Invitational. They then beat Truckee 40-42 and lost the tournament championship when they lost to Lowry 63-41.

Boulder City entered the Vegas Valley Invitational and has started the season 4-2. Their two losses came against the same team who won the tournament: the Canyon Springs Pioneers.

They beat Silverado and held the Skyhawk’s to five field goals for the game in a 39-23 victory. They then played the first of back to back games with Canyon Springs and lost the first 45-27 then the next day lost in the championship game 60-32. In between they played Silverado and beat them 55-41. The lady Eagles beat Sunrise Mountain 70-33 and Chaparral 62-46.

Girls Northern 3A

The defending state champion Spring Creek started the season with a loss to Minico Idaho 63-59 then beat Canyon Ridge from Idaho 54-51.

Elko beat Minico 50-39 then Canyon Ridge 53-45 to start the season 2-0.

Dayton is 2-2. What was unusual about the start of the season for Dayton was they lost to Incline 42-39, then played Fernley three times in a row going 1-2. First game was close 46-42. The other two were blow outs the second being 56-37 a loss. The third and final game Dayton won 55-28.

Truckee is 0-1 with their loss to Virgin Valley.

Lowry is 2-0 with a win over Incline and a win over Virgin Valley.

Fallon is 1-1.

South Tahoe is 1-0.

Sparks is 0-1.
