“O Hearken Ye!” “O Hearken Ye!”
The call went out to the Valley to join the Zephyr Singers and Strings at their Holiday Concert on Tuesday, Dec 6 at the Old Logandale School.
This musical Christmas gift to the community was a delightful concert of songs celebrating the season. Flo Lund, the founder of the group, was honored by the current Choral Director, Gaye Nelson.
The singers performed some interesting arrangements of old favorites – Chester Alwes’ “Ding Dong! Merrily on High,” John Rutter’s “Shepherd’s Pipe Carol” (with a brilliant piccolo obbligato played by Flo Lund) and an up beat “Rise Up Shepherd and Follow” by Carl Davis.
Accompanists Connie Whitney, Michelle Anderson, Mitzi Bender and Sherrie Whitney shared the honors as they supported the musicians.
The newest addition to the group – the Zephyr Strings played a set joyfully announcing the birth of the Christ Child including a unique arrangement by Laurence Lyon of “Bring A Torch, Jeanette, Isabella.”
This ever evolving musical group consists of singers, strings and The Zephyr Consort. They grow in their ability to present a full program of classic music that requires a great deal of flexibility in the performer in presenting a program of counter melodies, harmony or a full unison sound.
The audience once again faced a cold winter’s night, but now with souls and hearts warmed, and the groups’ wishes for a Merry Christmas ringing in their ears.
