Northern 3A – Boys

The Lowry Buckaroos travelled south last week and played four games against southern teams.

They started in Boulder City Thursday night and the Eagles routed the Buckaroos 63-48. Nate Hafen led the Eagles with 16 points as Boulder City held Lowry to just 4 points in the final period to finish the game.

On Friday the Buckaroos played the Pirates in the Bulldog Invitational. They beat the Pirates 63-54.

Then on Saturday morning, Lowry played Basic in the semi-finals and were beaten 79-71. Watterson and Studebaker led the Buckaroos in scoring in this with 19 each. Basic outscored the Bucks by one and two points each quarter to build their lead and win it.

In their second game of the day Lowry played Desert Oasis and lost 61-60. This was the most exciting game of the day. Lowry’s Studebaker gave Lowry the lead with eight seconds to go breaking a 58-58 tie. Diamondbacks Alex Trillo hit a three pointer in the final second of the game his only points of the game to win it sending Lowry back home with a 1-3 road trip in the south. Studebaker averaged 20 points a game in the tournament and was an all-tournament team selection.

Lowry is 2-1 in southern 3A play including their win against the Bulldogs the week before in the Lowry invitational. Lowry is 5-3 overall this season.

Elko hosted the Red Lion Tournament and had four games. Their first one was with Spanish Springs of Sparks and the Indians were beaten 60-51 to start the tournament. They then played Jerome Idaho and beat the Tigers 60-54. For the championship game Sky view played Elko and beat the Indians 65-40.

Spring Creek played Sky View of Salt Lake City and were destroyed 78-30. Sky View jumped out to a 28-6 first quarter lead and never looked back.

Truckee played one game this week against Fallon and won in the crossover game 61-47. Trent McMullen scored 19 points in the first half on way to 22 for the Wolverines. Truckee is 3-1 on the season.

Fallon starts the season at 2-2 and just lost to Truckee in their only game last week.

Sparks was beaten by McQueen last week in their only game by a score of 65-46. The Railroaders lead by 2 points going into the fourth quarter then scored 4 points in the fourth to the Lancers 25 to get blown out. Xavier Rodriguez scored 19 to lead the Railroaders.

Fernley, after returning home from a stint in Vegas, played two games and were beaten 51-40 by Lovelock and 68-49 to McDermitt. Fernley is 3-3.

Dayton played ROP and beat the 2A School 49-38. They played Yerington and beat them 51-49. Dayton is 3-2.

South Tahoe is 1-5 and was beaten badly last week in three games, Douglass 63-37, Faith Lutheran 64-28 and Carson 46-35.

Southern 3A – Boys

Boulder City is 7-3 overall on the season and completed a 2-1 week last week. Their loss came at the hands of Desert Pines 74-51. Their wins last week came against The Meadows 75-53 and Lowry 63-48.

Virgin Valley hosted their Bulldog Invitational and placed second when they lost to the Basic Wolves for the second time in the week. During the championship game the Bulldogs lost 58-51. Nolan Tanner led the Dawgs with 17 points. Their victories during the tournament came at the expense of Desert Oasis 41-36 with Tyson Tearlink scoring 16 points to lead the Bulldogs. On Friday, they beat Lincoln County 62-52. Earlier in the week they got killed by Silverado 74-24 then beat Sunrise Mountain 60-58. They are 6-6 so far this season.

Northern 3A – Girls

Lowry has jumped out to a 6-0 season thus far and are beating their opponents by an average of about 20 points a game. They are led by Dufurrena who scores 14 points a game and Gonzales who gets 10 a game.

This past week they went 3-0 against Galena 60-51, Faith Lutheran 46-41 in a close one, and against Damonte Ranch 47-29.

The defending state champ has fallen on hard times as Spring Creek is 1-3 on the season. They lost in Reno to Reno 74-39 then fell again at home this time to Bishop Manogue 61-56.

Fernley is 5-1 on the young season with a win last week over Kipp King 63-26.

Truckee is off to a 1-1 start with a 53-35 win over the Wooster Colts in Truckee.

Fallon dropped to 1-2 with a one point loss to Mineral County 47-46.

South Tahoe is 1-3. They lost to El Dorado Ca. 60-40 then to Hug 41-29 and to Damonte Ranch 46-23.

Dayton is 5-3 so far this season. This week they took third place in the Virginia City Classic against the 1A schools. They beat Smith Valley 55-23 then lost to 2A Mineral County 51-45 beat Virginia City 44-22 then Coleville CA 39-33.

Elko sits at 2-1 with their last game against Spanish Springs a 52-42 loss.

Southern 3A – Girls

Boulder City is riding on a six game win streak. They are 7-2 with two wins this week. The first one the Eagles beat Desert Pines 65-44 then finished the week by beating Western 69-39. Whitney Barlow had 13 points and 8 rebounds with Karlee Koopman scoring 12 and gathering 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles past the Warriors. Against Desert Pines Alyssa Ybarra poured in 18 points and the Eagles jumped out to a 44-19 half time lead. The Eagles play four games this week as they host Basic and Mountain View Christian then travel to Shadow Ridge.

Virgin Valley has lost 3 of the last 4 going 1-3 last week. Silverado beat the Dawgs by 13 points 66-53. Abbie Barnard led the Bulldogs with 17 points in the loss. Silverado went on a 25-10 run during the third quarter. Sunrise Mountain was led by Tiara Veal who had 19 points. The Bulldogs Abbie Barnard scored 13 points and Alora Bonner who had 12 led the Dawgs past the Miners 50-45.

Basic traveled to Mesquite and took home a 63-50 victory. Abbie Barnard scored 18 points to lead the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs were blown out in the fourth quarter when Basic caught fire and scored 27 points to the bulldogs 7.
