The Mesquite branch of Bank of Nevada presented a check on Wednesday, December 14, in the amount of $200 to the Cappalappa Family Resource Center to assist the center in its work in the community.
Branch manager Dan Wright, who presented the check, said that he felt it was a way the Bank could be involved in helping in the Moapa Valley community.
“Cappalappa is an organization that is doing a lot of good and is obviously making a difference in this community,” Wright said. “It is one of those great non-profit institutions that has the people on its staff who are so completely devoted to its mission and are focused on making things better.”
Cappalappa administrator Penny Vallone, who accepted the donation, expressed gratitude for the donation and the help it would bring to fulfill the goals of the center. “We will most likely put these funds to use in supplementing our food bank supplies,” Vallone said. “That is an area that is always in need and really makes a direct positive impact on local families that we work with.”
In recent weeks, Bank of Nevada has been developing a business and banking partnership with Cappalappa, specifically in its Thrift Store.
“We have been able to provide the thrift store with a machine to accept credit cards and an e-deposit machine for check processing,” Wright said. “Because we wanted to help them as a non-profit community organization, we were able to provide the machines for that service at no cost. We hope that these things will help (Cappalappa) in increasing thrift store revenues and thus help the center to help the community.”
Wright said that all this was part of a desire of his Bank of Nevada branch to extend its Mesquite territory into the Moapa Valley and to assist local small businesses with banking services.
“We started with serving Overton Power District banking needs earlier this year,” Wright said. “We were certainly happy to work with the district as it is one of the community’s major employers. We have also joined the Moapa Valley Chamber and have been involved in sponsoring their events. We just wanted to specifically bring the bank services here and also be involved in giving back to this community as well.”
Vallone said that the services offered by Bank of Nevada had brought the Cappalappa Thrift Store to a new business level of customer convenience.
“The excellent services that are available at Bank of Nevada for small businesses are tools that are really needed in this community,” Vallone said. “And they aren’t really being offered locally.”
