Northern 3A Boys

We start off with Sparks who played one game last week against Portola California and blew them out 63-23. The Railroaders are proving that their dismal last season was a fluke and that they are ready to win back their state title back. They boast a four game win streak and sit atop the 3A.

Lowry beat North Valleys of the northern 4A by fifteen points 74-59 last week. The Buckaroos are enjoying a three game win streak and have next week off before starting off the New Year schedule.

Dayton had last week off and will have this week off as well. They are 7-3 headed into pod play the first week of the New Year.

Fernley is 5-6 so far this season. Last week the Vaqueros were beaten by Yerington 75-68 where they jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter. They then scored a whopping 5 points in the second quarter to trail by 3 at the half.

It was during the second half that both teams started a scoring frenzy as Yerington scored 26 while Fernley had 24 in the 3rd quarter. In the fourth Yerington extended their lead when they scored 24 more while Fernley scored 22 in a very exciting game.

Casen Knutson had 23 points against the Lions including three 3-pointers. He is still scoring 20 points a game as he leads his team in a bid for the title. He had a season high against West Wendover with 31 points where he hit six three pointers. In their second game of the week they were beaten by Lovelock 57-52.

Spring Creek played Nyssa and pounded them 58-38 last week as their record is 2-3. Spring Creek is joining the southern migration as they are coming to Vegas this week to participate in the Las Vegas prep tournament and start out against Palos Verdes Cal then play Clark in their first two days of the four day tournament. They will then start their pod play next week.

Truckee’s streak is at 5 and no that’s not the winning streak. It’s losing that seems to be the topic of the season in Truckee. The Wolverines were beaten 48-41 by Wooster.

Elko made a trip to Utah where they played Sky View for the second time in eleven days and were beaten for the second time in eleven days 63-32. The Indians then played in Logan and were beaten 62-45. Their season record is now 3-5.

Churchill County is 2-5 so far this season and hasn’t played in a week and won’t play for another week. They have lost 5 in a row.

South Tahoe is 1-6 and got hammered by Eldorado of California 72-39. The Vikings will be playing in the San Pedro Pirate Classic next week for four days. They have a five game losing streak going.

Southern 3A Boys

The Eagles of Boulder City are sitting at 9-4 and are coming off of a week in which they played no games. They will be playing in the Paloma Valley tournament in Paloma California this week before coming home for the start of the league season on the sixth against Moapa in Boulder City.

The Eagles have spread the scoring around as they have two scoring 10 points a game: Hafen and Bailey. They have four more scoring between 5 and 6 points a game. They average 57 points per game and 34 rebounds a game.

Right now the Eagles look to be the team to beat in the south. They beat Lowry by 15 a couple weeks ago who is one of the top two in the north.

Virgin Valley has been taking the week off and will have this week off also getting a rest and preparing for the last half of the season.

The Bulldogs will host the Pirates on January 20 for their first league game. The Dawgs are 7-6 and are led by Tanner and Bowler who are both averaging 11 points per game with Teerlink scoring 10 per game. Tanner is their big rebounder with 101 on the season. As a team the Dawgs score 56 per game.
