The Moapa Valley Boys Basketball team had a rough week on the road last week. The team traveled to Cedar City Utah to play in the Steve Hodgson Cancer Classic. The team played three games and were beaten in all three.

Moapa was outscored by Grantsville 12-4 in the first quarter and 11-9 in the second to trail at half by 10.

Moapa then came out of the locker room at the half and closed the gap to five after the third quarter. But that’s as close as they came and the final score was 54-47.

In the second game Moapa faced Juab High School from Nephi, Utah and were beaten 60-54.

The third game had the Pirates up against Beaver High School. But the Beavers beat Moapa 56-50.

Moapa will face a tough week this week as they face the Clark Chargers from Las Vegas. Clark is playing great basketball right now. They are coming off a tournament championship loss and a second place finish last week in the Las Vegas prep championships. Clark is coming in with a record of 11-2 and is ranked 4th in the state. Their two losses came against Cheyenne the first game of the season and Sierra in the tournament final last week.

The Pirates then travel to Boulder City in the first league game of the season. The winner will be in first place in the south.

There are only four games which count in the Pirates regular season and that’s for seeding purposes in the league tournament. Moapa could have five wins this season and win the state championship.

In Boulder City Friday night the boy’s and girl’s will be playing in Boulder with the girl’s playing at 6:00 and the Boy’s game at 7:30.
