County Clerk Office In Mesquite To Close
The Mesquite branch of the Clark County Clerk’s Office will close after Friday, Jan. 13 due to a reported lack of customer traffic.
“We process very few customers each day we are open, and we have many days with no customers at the Mesquite office,” County Clerk Diana Alba said. “This lack of traffic makes it difficult to justify spending taxpayer dollars to keep the office open.”
The part-time worker in Mesquite regularly handles less than 10 transactions during the three days per week the office is open, county officials said. The position will be transferred to the main office in downtown Las Vegas. An average front-desk staff person handles 25-35 transactions per day, officials said.
Residents of the Mesquite/Moapa Valley area will still be able to submit fictitious firm names and notary bonds by mail, and will be able to submit passport applications at the Mesquite Post Office. However, they will have to leave that area to obtain a marriage license.
Overall, the Clerk’s Office issues more than 90,000 marriage licenses, and processes nearly 5,000 notary bonds annually.
The Clerk maintains offices in the Clark County Government Center and at the Regional Justice Center in downtown Las Vegas, as well as in Henderson and Laughlin. See the Clerk’s web pages for the exact addresses and hours of operation.
