Pirates Wrestlers Compete at Silverado High School and Iron Town Duals

The Moapa Valley High School wrestling team had a busy schedule last week traveling to Silverado High School on Wednesday January 4 to participate in a tri-dual meet.
The Pirates first squared off against the Skyhawks of Silverado. Despite giving up 12 points on forfeits in two weight classes, the Pirates battled valiantly and ended up losing with a 45 to 33 score at the end of the dual.
Grapplers scoring for the Pirates were: Brayden Evans pin at 126 lbs; Justin Boren pin at 152 lbs; Trevor Durham pin at 160 lbs; Ricky Glaubitz 11-9 decision in overtime at 170 lbs; Parker Chappell pin at 182 lbs; Colton Millington pin at 195 lbs.
The next dual was against the Patriots from Liberty High. The Pirates struggled to get any traction and were destroyed by the Patriots by a score of 65 to 9. The only two Pirates scoring were: Trevor Durham with a 6–0 decision; and Parker Chappell with a pin in 1:34 seconds.
The Pirates later in the week traveled to Cedar City, Utah to compete in the Iron Town Duals. A total of 12 teams participated in the duals this year. Moapa Valley met four teams on Friday and five teams on Saturday. The Pirates as a team went four wins and five losses for the tournament.
Individual wrestlers were awarded medals based on their win/loss record during the two day competition. The Pirates had three athletes that placed in the top four. Schyler Postma placed third in the 145 pound weight class with an overall record of 7-2. Trevor Durham also placed third in the 160 pound weight class with a record of 7-2. Parker Chappell took first place in the 182 pound weight class undefeated with a record of 9-0.
Moapa Valley travels to Spring Creek this Friday and Saturday for the Kiwanis Club Invitational.
