Boys Southern 3A
Virgin Valley started the week off last week by hosting the Rancho Rams. The Bulldogs were beaten 58-55 in an overtime thriller. Nolan Tanner was the Dawgs leading scorer with 16 points.
Rancho’s Chris Beverly made 4 of 4 free throws in the final minute and a half to beat the Bulldogs. Beverly scored 19 points in the game to lead all scorers.
It was Nolan Tanners put-back with 10 seconds left that sent the game to overtime. Virgin Valley came back from 12 points behind after Rancho started the game off with a 22 point first quarter and held the Bulldogs to 10 points in the quarter.
Virgin Valley countered with 18 of their own in the second holding Rancho to 8 for a Rancho 2 point half time lead.
Rancho upped the lead to 7 after the third before the Dawgs tied the game in the final seconds to send it into overtime.
On Thursday night the Bulldog used a 13-16 effort at the free throw line to beat the Rattlers from Mojave; 40-35.
Boulder City started the week last Tuesday by beating Del Sol 62-53. The Eagles jumped out to a 16-11 lead after the first and held on to a 2 point lead at the half with the score 32-30.
The Eagles were still up 2 after the third before scoring 22 in the fourth to win going away.
Morgan led the Eagles with 13 points while Hafen had 12. Boulder City shot 13-21 from the line while the Dragons shot 11-19.
Boys Northern 3A
Sparks is tied at the top with Lowry after a 60-49 victory at Dayton. Then in a letdown Sparks hosted South Tahoe who were 4-8 and got run out of their own gym 70-56 in the upset.
The Vikings traveled to Fallon Tuesday where Brandon Cramer led the team with 26 points and beat Fallon in a close one 53-49.
It was last season that the Vikings caught fire in the latter half of the season and rode that motivation into the State semi-finals. They took the state champs into overtime before getting beat by the Pirates.
Sparks is 9-3 while South Tahoe is 5-8.
Lowry pounded McDermitt 54-34 on the road Tuesday then beat Dayton as they held off a 4th quarter run by the Dust Devils to win 57-43. Jesse Studebaker had 17 points to lead the Buckaroos. Dylan Taylor led the Dust Devils with 15.
Lowry then hosted Fernley and destroyed them 60-40. Studebaker had 18 points and Josh Watterson scored 16 to lead the Buckaroos.
Elko came into a game against Fallon riding a 4 game win streak and extended it to 5 with a 66-34 win over Fallon. Elko travels to Dayton and Fernley this Friday and Saturday.
Truckee played Fernley and was beaten 47-41 to push the streak to 6. Fernley’s Cade Knutson had four three pointers and led Fernley with 20 points in the win. Truckee then played Dayton last Saturday where they beat the slumping Dust Devils in Truckee 60-54.
Fallon lost to South Tahoe then made the trip across the state to Spring Creek where they lost 74-65.
Churchill County travelled to Elko where the Indians beat the Green Wave 66-34. The Wave has lost 9 in a row.
Girls Southern 3A
The Boulder City Eagles completely dismantled the Dragons of Del Sol; 68-27. Whitney Barlow dominated with 23 points and 9 rebounds in the rout. The Eagles jumped out in the first quarter to a 18-6 lead then extended it to 25 with a 39-14 half time advantage. The Eagles coasted in the second half for the win.
Boulder City shot 9-15 from the line and dominated the inside by out-rebounding the Dragons 28- 13.
Virgin Valley traveled to Rancho, fell behind from the beginning and never caught up. After the first quarter the Bulldogs trailed 14-8 then with a low scoring quarter trailed by 3 at the half 19-16. Crandell lead the Dawgs with 13 points.
Girls Northern 3A
Lowry hosted the Dayton Dust Devils who helped the Buckaroos extend their winning streak to 10 games and remain the only team in the 3A who is undefeated. Lowry jumped out to a 19-5 1st quarter lead and extended it to 32-9 at the half.
Lowry cleared the bench for the 3rd and 4th quarters and won 57-25.
Dufferna made 8-11 from the free throw line and scored 2 points to lead the Buckaroos.
Dayton shot no three pointers and was a 7-20 from the line.
Then Lowry hosted Fernley and received their first loss on the season with a score of 50-47. Lowry plays three games this week at Fallon then they host Spring Creek before traveling to Battle Mountain. Lowry is 10-1.
Dayton is 8-4 on the season and beat Sparks 56-42 earlier in the week who is still winless at 0-5. On Saturday the Dust Devils traveled to Truckee who was coming off a loss against McQueen Friday night with the score of 54-38 at McQueen.
Truckee beat Fernley 55-46 in Fernley where at half it was tied 25-25. Aliegh Klug led Truckee with 22 points. She was 2-8 from the free throw line. Truckee then hosted North Valleys and was beaten 39-23.
Fallon lost to Spring Creek 68-23 as Spring Creek is rolling now.
Fernley played at South Tahoe Friday and beat the Vikings 54-50 in a close one then the next night travelled to Lowry and beat the Buckaroos 50-47 in an upset. Fernley used a 15-5 run in the 3rd then held Lowry off in the 4th for the win. Fernley is 11-3 on the season.
Elko lost to 1A Wells 36-34.
