Virgin Valley High School has announced the resignation of Head Football Coach Kirk Hafen. Hafen called a team meeting last Friday and was reportedly very emotional as he broke the news to his team.

Hafen has been coaching Virgin Valley Football for a total of 26 years. He was the Bulldogs’ head coach for 21 years and he served as an assistant coach for 5 years before that. With a 166-66 record, Coach Hafen’s teams have won two state championships. The first was in the 2A in 1994. The other was in 2006 in the 3A, which was the first of two battles with the Pirates in the championship game. During Hafen’s tenure the Virgin Valley team has also been five time state runners up.

Coach Hafen had 18 winning seasons as the Dawgs Head Coach including this season’s 5-5 record which ended with a 13-12 overtime loss to the Pirates in the state quarterfinals.

With the new league being formed he told the Review Journal, “I just thought it might be a good time.”

Virgin Valley has formed a committee to hire their new top Dawg.
