LETTER: Volunteering Brings Compassion

Secret Santa’s are, of course, most prevalent during the Christmas season; however, they work throughout the year. I believe we have wonderful and awesome Secret Santas in Moapa Valley and I want to say thank you for your generosity and compassion this past Christmas season.

Also, I want to thank the Secret Santas who allowed me to be an elf and deliver precious gifts to others. To see the appreciation and the tears of joy streaming down the faces, in addition to the hugs I received for you gave me warmth and were worth the effort. Again, thank you. Please continue this compassionate gesture as it is much appreciated.

I was fortunate enough to travel to Las Vegas with a group of ladies from various local churches to volunteer at the Rescue Mission. The Christmas season brings many volunteers to the Mission; however, during the rest of the year volunteers are needed. The areas needed are serving food, preparing table settings for future dinners, compiling hygiene packages, etc. So if you have nothing to do and want to pay it forward from your heart, please contact them at 702-382-1766. They are located at 480 W Bonanza Road, in Las Vegas. If you want to donate items; hygiene items, socks, t shirts, etc. are always welcome.

If you do not want to volunteer outside your community; there are many needs right here within our valley. Transportation is the largest need to those who can no longer drive to Vegas, Mesquite, or St. George for medical appointments or shopping needs that the valley cannot provide for them. Who knows, your neighbor may be in need, check in on them.

Thank you for listening and I wish a Happy New Year for everyone. God Bless!

Vicki Wendt
