Spring Valley High School in Las Vegas hosted the MVHS Boys Basketball team last week with a 6-4 record going into the game. That included a loss to Bishop Gorman 106-68 only a few days before.
The Pirates, on the other hand, were mired in a losing streak trying to pull out a win to stop their downward spin.
Well, it didn’t stop for them on Wednesday night as the Grizzlies pounded Moapa 72-38 to improve their record to 7-4. The Pirates on the other hand dropped to 1-15 with 9 straight losses.
Rahfe’l King scored 17 for Spring Valley as he was supported by Shannon Noel and Sean Clancey who each scored 11. Ryan Vozzola had 13 rebounds for the Grizzlies.
Moapa was down 7 after the first quarter. The Pirates then fell behind by 20 at the half as Spring Valley opened up the game in the second quarter with 21 points to Moapa’s 8. The third quarter was much the same as the Grizzlies outscored Moapa by 13 again to build a 33 point lead.
Shane Terrill led the Pirates in scoring with 13 and the Pirates were 6-8 from the line.
On Friday Moapa went by car to Enterprise, Utah where they played the Wolves and were beaten again 56-50. The game was close all the way through as the evenly matched teams fought hard for the victory.
Ryan West paced the Wolves with 13 while Brett Schill had ten.
This was the second meeting between the two schools this year the first being during the Virgin Valley tournament at the first of the season where the Wolves won 42-40.
Moapa statistics were not reported for this game.
The Pirates will have their semester testing this week so the only game of the week will be on Friday in Virgin Valley. Game time is at 7:30 pm.
