An early morning collision occurred on Moapa Valley Blvd. at the Gubler Bridge in Logandale on Wednesday, January 11. Two elderly women involved in the accident received moderate to severe injuries, according to Clark County Fire Department officials.
At approximately 7:00 a.m., a Toyota Camry driven by a Logandale teen boy was travelling south on Moapa Valley Blvd. approaching the Gubler Bridge. Another teenage boy was riding in the car as a passenger. The two were on their way to school at Moapa Valley High School.
The driver reportedly slowed and paused as he entered the left turn lane to turn onto the bridge. But the low morning sun, positioned directly ahead at that time of day, made visibility difficult, he said. As the car made the turn it struck an oncoming vehicle nearly head-on. The driver said that, with the glare of the sun in his eyes, he could not even see the approaching vehicle.
The oncoming vehicle was being driven by an elderly Overton resident staying the winter at the Fun N Sun Trailer Park. The vehicle also contained one female passenger, also a resident of Fun N Sun Park.
Both women were transported by ambulance to University Medical Center in Las Vegas where they were treated for their injuries.
The teenagers in the first car received only minor injuries in the accident and were treated at the scene by volunteer firefighters from Logandale Station 73 who responded.
There was reportedly no evidence found of the use of cell phone or other electronic devices by the driver at the time of the accident.
