LETTER: Two SNHD Inspections No Different

The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) recently inspected two commercial food establishments, Quail Hollow Farm, a one nighter, and Sugar’s Homeplate, a twenty year established restaurant.

The inspections were identical with each receiving a multitude of code violations yielding near closure for both. The QHF had to alter the menu and SHP status dropped from class A to C.

The only difference was the reporting by the Moapa Valley Progress. The QHF article title starts the misrepresentation: “Health District Crashes Party at Quail Hollow Farms.” The Bledsoe’s were informed 24 hours in advance an inspector would arrive before 3 p.m. (a crash?) and by law it was not a party.

The SNHD inspector was faulted for having an unannounced and non-scheduled inspection (a crash?) which lasted 3 to 4 times longer than normal and in the absence of owner Judy Metz. The SHP article presented numerous excuses for the sited violations. There are no excuses necessary just corrections.

I was wrong, there was no difference in reporting. The SNHD inspector was guilty and not the butler.

Yes, QHF and SHP are private properties and the SNHD inspector has the right, by law, to enter and perform duties strictly and equally.

The Moapa Valley Progress would be held in higher esteem if the 5 W’s; what, when, where, who and why, were reported in detail with less journalistic spin and literary license.

The Bledsoe’s and Judy Metz could have taken responsibility and accountability by stating “The Buck Stops Here”!
