The Moapa Boys basketball team started the week coming off of an exciting and emotional win in Mesquite. From there the boys went to playing one of the favorites in the 2A league, The Meadows School.

Meadows came out and scored 18 in the first quarter taking an 11 point lead after the first. They added two more for a 13 point lead at the half as the Pirates scored 8 to the meadows 10 in the 2nd quarter for a total score of 15-28.

Sean McConell led the Pirates with 13 points. Shane Terrill had 10.

Gosse scored 16 for the Meadows.

From the foul line Moapa was 10-19 while the Meadows were 11-15.

In the 3rd quarter Moapa started to find their stroke as they scored 16 points. But The Meadows still had their stroke down and scored 19 to increase the lead.

The Pirates didn’t give up and put 19 more on the board while Meadows knocked down 16 for a 63-50 win over the Pirates.

On Friday night the Pirates hosted the 10-10 Shadow Ridge Mustangs and were beaten 66-40 by the bigger and quicker herd.

Shadow Ridge jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the first.

Moapa’s problem in this game was the turnovers. They turned the ball over 14 times in the first half. Nine of those were in the 1st quarter as bad cross court passes and mishandling of the basketball plagued the Pirates.

Moapa never challenged but worked hard trying to keep it close. Shadow Ridge lead by 23 at the half 39-16.

Landon Willard had his best game of the season as he scored 16 points for the Pirates including 4 three pointers.

Shadow Ridge replaced all players every four minutes during the game.

The Pirates scored 17 in the third then 7 in the fourth for the game total. Moapa is 2-18 on the season but is still in second place in the league behind Boulder City.

Moapa plays Vo-Tech then Virgin Valley at home this week.
