LETTER: Still In Need Of Community Support

In this community, there is a grave misunderstanding of how the Senior Center operates. I’ve been told by several people that the Senior Center doesn’t need donations. This is far from the truth. Our grants amount to approximately 50% of what it takes to operate the Senior Program.

Without the sales from our thrift store, collecting and crushing aluminum cans and membership dues and donations, we would be in deep trouble. Any donations of furniture, household items, sheets and blankets, and clothing are greatly appreciated. We also accept cash donations.

We are also in need of volunteers. Volunteer hours assist us in meeting some of our requirements for matching funds for our grants. We are always in need of volunteers for the thrift store and other services that we provide.

Our center serves home bound seniors with meals. We also provide transportation to the center for meals for those seniors unable to drive. We provide transportation to Las Vegas, St. George and Mesquite for medical appointments for seniors that are unable to drive. We have a USDA food commodity program for low income resident seniors. At this time we have 42 clients involved in this program. This program is done completely by volunteers and no funds are used for it.

At some time in the future we will all be seniors and may be in need of these services. Please remember we accept and appreciate all donations. Thanks for your consideration and help.

Lita Fisher,

Senior Center Vice Chairman
