The Pirates ended the wrestling season with two duals last week. The team traveled to Del Sol High School on Monday January 30 to face the Dragons. The Pirates have not crossed paths with Del Sol much this year and really didn’t know what to expect from their team.

The Pirates took advantage of several holes in the Dragon line-up and defeated Del Sol by a score of 52 to 12.

Scoring for the Pirates came as follows: Austin Leavitt at 106 pounds won by forfeit; Zach Baldwin at 113 pounds won by forfeit; Kaleb Bodily at 126 pounds won by pin; Jake Repp at 132 pounds won by forfeit; Jared Repp at 152 pounds won by forfeit; Justin Boren at 160 pounds won by a major decision 19-11; Parker Chappell at 182 pounds won by a pin; Colton Millington at 195 pounds won by a pin; Tyson Mortenson at 220 pounds won by a pin.

On Thursday, February 2 the Pirates had their only home dual of the season against The Coronado High School Cougars. The Pirates wrestled in front of an impressive and vocal crowd.

Moapa jumped out to an early lead as Austin Leavitt pinned his 106 pound opponent in the first period. Zach Baldwin added points to the board with a 12-7 decision over his 113 pound opponent. Brayden Evans won by decision at 126 pounds by a score of 11-6. Jake Repp continued the scoring drive for the Pirates with a decision over his 132 pound opponent of 9-8. Coronado then won three matches in a row in the middle weights. Pirate wrestler, Justin Boren was the next score for the Pirates at 160 pounds with a pin. Parker Chappell beat his 182 pound opponent with a pin. Colton Millington followed suit and pinned his opponent at 195 pounds. The last score of the night came from Calvin O’Toole in the heavy weight class as he received points for a forfeit.

When the dust had settled the Pirates ended up beating the Cougars by a score of 39 to 30.

The wrestling team now prepares for the division tournament held in Boulder City on the 11th of February. The division tournament will determine how individual wrestlers will be seeded in the state tournament the following weekend.
