Lady Pirates Take A Beating From Boulder City

The Boulder City Eagles came to town on Tuesday, February 7 and went home victorious with a 21 point win over the Pirates. The final score was 60-39, Eagles.
Moapa kept the game close as they trailed by 6 points after the 1st quarter with a score of 15-9; then closed the gap to 5 after the 2nd quarter.
Boulder City used the fast break to get and maintain their lead throughout the game. Mallory Bird led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points as she seemed to be able to knock down the big shots whenever the Eagles needed them. She had 3 three pointers.
Hanna Leavitt led the Pirate scorers with 9 points.
Boulder City finally opened the game up in the 3rd quarter with their fast break working to perfection. The top rated team in the state scored 24 points, which was 16 more than the Pirates, to take a commanding lead into the final quarter of the game. Moapa could get no closer and had to settle for the loss.
In the final home game of the season, the Lady Pirates were beaten by the Cheyenne Desert Shields on Friday, February 10 with a final game score of 52-47. The loss will send the Pirates into this week’s League tournament with Boulder City who was upset by the Bulldogs last Friday night.
Hanna Leavitt led the Pirates against Cheyenne with 11 points on the night.
Moapa trailed by 10 after the 1st period 19-9. Then the Pirates trimmed the lead to two by half time with a 13-5 run in the 2nd quarter. The lady Pirates then tied the score at 35 to start the final quarter. But, the momentum swag favored Cheyenne as the Desert Shields finished with a five point victory.
Harding and Reed each had 9. Noto scored 8 in the final home game of her high school career.
Brown scored 20 points to lead Cheyenne.
The Pirates will be playing the Eagles for the right to play Virgin Valley on Saturday night. Game time is 5:15 at Durango High School.
