Moapa Valley Progress
It wasn’t a game that Pirate fans will want to remember for very long. It is even questionable whether Virgin Valley fans will want to remember this one, except for the fact it was a win. A very ugly win.
Of course, the final MVHS boys basketball game of the season against Virgin Valley High School on Thursday, February 16, was a very ugly loss, indeed for the Pirates. In fact I can’t find where Moapa has ever scored fewer points in a basketball game.
Virgin Valley beat Moapa Valley 29-22 to advance to the league championship game against Boulder City. In this offensive struggle both teams had a hard time making anything into the net. Moapa was 10 of 43 from the field and 0-3 from the line. Virgin Valley shot 9 of 38 but had many more free throw attempts; 18 of them; in which they sunk 10.
Moapa had the lead at 5-3 after the first quarter. Dakota Watters hit the first basket a 3 pointer at the 7:45 mark.
Moapa lead at the half 14-12.
The most exciting event to happen for the Pirates was when Shane Terrill fired up a half-court shot that went in just before the half-time horn sounded to give the Pirates that two point lead.
Moapa lost the game in the 3rd when they scored only 2 points in the quarter. Meanwhile Virgin Valley iced the nets with 7 for a three point lead at 19-16.
Terrill lead the Pirates in scoring with 7 points while Watters had 5 each in their final game for Moapa.
Tyson Teerlink scored 9 for the Bulldogs while Graves and Bowler each had 6.
