Fundraising for the annual Moapa Valley 4th of July fireworks display will continue this weekend with a Tank Day celebration along with a 5K challenge run. On Saturday, April 21 the festivities will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the historic army tank in downtown Overton.
Members of the American Legion Post #75 will start things off with a flag raising ceremony at 8:00 a.m. The tank will then be opened up for members of the community to climb inside and see the inner workings of a World War II era army tank.
The 5K fun run will begin at 9:00 a.m. Community members wishing to run for the 4th of July fireworks cause can register that morning to participate in the 5K. The 5K route will take runners north up Cooper Street, veering right at the Perkins Field airport to continue up Mormon Mesa road. The route will eventually turn around and follow the same route back to the tank day festivities. Strollers are welcome in the fun run/walk. No rollerblades or skateboards allowed.
Runners can pre-register for the 5K event by stopping in at McKesson Realty office or Lin’s Marketplace in Overton for an application. Applications are also available online through the Moapa Valley Chamber of Commerce website at www.moapavalleychamber.com.
Registration for the 5K is $15 and includes a t-shirt and award. All proceeds go to the 4th of July fireworks display.
Tank Day festivities will continue on throughout the day including awards presentations, raffle drawings, and sale of special 4th of July t-shirts. Hot dogs will also be on sale through the American Legion and there will be a bake sale throughout the morning. The whole community is welcome.
