The Moapa Valley High School girls softball team played two games last week.

The first was against Canyon Springs where the Pirates beat the Pioneers 16-12. It took the Pirates a 4-run 4th inning to catch up to the Pioneers as the Canyon Springs held a lead of 4-1 going into the fourth.

Canyon Springs regained the lead with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to make it 6-5.

But Moapa finished the 5th inning with 6 more, taking a 12-5 lead. The Lady Pirates then finished it off with 1 in the 6th and 4 more in the 7th inning.

Canyon Springs wasn’t finished yet. They scored 1 in the 6th then came back with 5 in the 7th.

Chanelle Lacroix got the win as she allowed 9 hits and 12 runs in the game. McCall Smith went 3-for-5 with a triple. Summer Owens tripled and singled, driving in three runs as the Pirates outlasted the Pioneers.

On Friday afternoon the Pirates went into Las Vegas where they were defeated by a very good Shadow Ridge team.

Bailey Owens led the Pirates in hitting by going 2-3 while scoring a run.

Shadow Ridge scored at least one run in every inning: 1 in the 1st; then 2 in each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings; to take a 7-0 lead into the 5th inning.

After another run for the Mustangs, Moapa finally got on the board scoring 2. The Lady Pirates then scored 2 more in the 7th for the final score of 10-4.

“The girl’s played a good game against one of the better teams,” said Coach Geniel Ozaki.

Moapa had 6 hits and 4 errors in the game. Frie was the losing pitcher as she allowed only 8 hits.

The Pirates play Boulder City this week in league play in Boulder City.
