MVHS Track Comes On Strong At Home Meet

MVHS Athlete, Emma Eira competes in the high jump event at a track meet held at Moapa Valley High School last week.
Moapa Valley High School hosted a midweek Track Meet on Tuesday, April 24. The Pirate boys’ team won its side while the girls’ team placed second on their side.
The boys team scored 149 points while Rancho scored 129. Other teams were Eldorado with 97, Spring Mountain with 97, The Meadows with 43 and Alamo with 34.
On the girls side Rancho had 125 points to Moapa’s 98, Eldorado’s 77 and the Meadows 66.
Top finishers were Shelbie Gray in the discus and shotput. Emily Mills in the 800, Ashley Noto in the 300 hurdles, Malary Reed in the 100 meter hurdles, all with 1st place finishes.
On the boy’s side Sean McConell won the 300 hurdles, Kyler Leavitt finished second in both the discus and the shotput.
The Moapa boys showed some strength in the field events.Moapa’s pole vaulters; finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd; included Justin Boren, Skyler Hill and Nathan Sprague. Tanner Goodrich and Jackson Mortenson placed 2nd and 3rd in the high jump. Brandon Johnson came in 2nd in the long jump.
On Saturday the teams travelled to the Meadows where they competed in the Meadows invite. There Malary Reed was voted the most outstanding girls athlete and received a trophy as she finished in second place in her events of the 100 meter hurdles, long jump and the triple jump. Emily Mills finished 1st in the 300 hurdles and 2nd in the 800 meters. Shelbie Gray was 2nd in the discus and shotput.
The teams finished in 5th place on both sides.
On Friday is the Grant Bushman Invitational at Moapa Valley High School. The events start at 3 p.m.
