LETTER: No Pretenses

I recognize that as Judge Waite’s daughter, I may not be viewed as an unbiased source. However, after hearing some of the allegations made during this election cycle, I felt the need to speak out.

These are some of the greatest lessons I have learned, through example, from my Father, Judge Lanny Waite. These valuable lessons have become even more important as I try to raise my own family.

1. There are many who, in order to gain for themselves, are willing to compromise their integrity-DON’T DO IT!

2. A solid reputation is built on your words and your actions; never seek to falsely destroy someone else’s to benefit yourself

3. When you make a mistake, (as we all do), face the consequence, learn from it, then let it go

4. Be “man” enough to admit when you are wrong

5. Work hard: If you’re going to do something give it 100%

6. Respect our country and it’s leaders. You don’t always have to agree with them, but you should always show respect for them.

7. Have a voice and when appropriate, let it be heard.

8. Holding a grudge will only hold you back.

9. When conflicts arise, get reliable information, make a decision, and don’t be afraid to stand up for your choice. Sometimes it will be with the majority. Sometimes it will be with the minority

With my father, there is no façade. He is not perfect, but then he doesn’t pretend to be either.

He does not change because it is an election year. As a judge in our small community, he has faced criticism from people who are upset with decisions he has had to make. At times, these come to the forefront and seem to get twisted by some candidates during election years. Allegations have been made, which in reality, are baseless and even false. He is firm, but not without compassion. This holds true for everyone, no matter who they are.

Please consider: we live in a small community. If he had compromised equity and fairness, he would never have been re-elected after his first term, or each subsequent term since.

I am honored that my father has no pretenses, and regardless of the situation, he continues to show his character through both his words, and his actions.
