Moapa Valley Progress

Moapa Valley veterans groups were active over the Memorial Day weekend. Despite the heavy wind on Friday, veterans groups decorated the graves of fallen soldiers and veterans who are buried in local cemeteries. On Saturday, the veterans met early, at 5:00 a.m., and posted American flags all along the Moapa Valley Blvd.

On Monday morning, members of the American Legion and their family members gathered at the flagpole near the old Army tank in Overton. Color guards Dennis Vance and John Bishop presented the flag to Don VanMiddendorp who then raised it full height on the flagpole. The flag was then lowered to half staff to honor of fallen soldiers on Memorial Day.

The National Anthem was played over a sound system and was followed by a single shot of a cannon executed by veteran Bill Pickett. Also in attendance at the ceremony was veteran Chuck Jones.
