Overton Postmaster Retiring, Open House To Be Held

Barbara Lewis is retiring on Tuesday, July 31, after working for the United States Postal Service for 30 years.

Lewis began working in May of 1982 at the Moapa Post Office. Three years later, in December 1985, she was promoted to Postmaster. She continued to work in Moapa until 2002, when she decided to transfer to the Overton Post Office.

Lewis is originally from Phoenix, Arizona and moved to the Moapa Valley area in 1967 with her family. She graduated from Moapa Valley High School in 1969 and shortly married after that.

Her husband, Malcolm Lewis, is retired from the Operating Engineers and currently farms in Utah. They have been married for 44 years and have raised two children.

Working for the Postal Service, Lewis has been to conferences all over the country including: Washington DC, Hawaii, Virginia, Florida, and even Puerto Rico. She said that she has been able to see amazing sights and make some great friends along the way.

Lewis’ hobbies include quilting, cooking and spending time with family and friends. After her retirement, she will be joining her husband in Utah.

The Overton Post Office will be holding an Open House on Monday, July 30 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in honor of Lewis’s retirement. Please stop by and wish her farewell and good luck in her retirement. She will be missed.
