All of the young ghouls, ghosts and goblins of Halloween came out a few days early this year at the Lin’s Marketplace Trunk or Treat event on Saturday afternoon. About 300 kids with their parents showed up in full costume to haunt the store’s parking lot and the aisles inside of Lin’s, seeking treats for their troubles.

At 6:29 this evening the sun will disappear slowly in the west as darkness falls. At 7:28 p.m. the moon, only three days past full will climb above the eastern horizon. The breezes will momentarily pause as an expectant hush falls over the land. An owl may hoot mysteriously in the dark while wraithlike bats flutter on leathery wings. Yes, Charlie Brown, the Great Pumpkin will slowly and silently rise out the pumpkin patch, gleaming and glowering down on all the tiny, costumed mortals who play at being the frightening things of the night. Halloween is here. Heh! Heh! Heh!

Election Day is next Tuesday, November 6. Thank goodness, it’s nearly over!
Many Nevadans are feeling somewhat fatigued by all of the privileges and attention paid to us on account of our being a battleground state. We have been constantly accosted on television, radio, newspapers and the internet by vicious campaign advertising. For the past several months, our phones have been ringing off the hook, both night and day, with “surveys” and robo-calls promoting one candidate or another. It will be nice to finally put this critical election behind us and move forward. Of course, we can only hope, when the dust finally settles, that ‘forward’ is the direction we will be moving.
No one asked me but… With the 2012 election closing in I have heard much discussion as to who one should vote for the various offices. As a politic junkie, I love the discussions as long as they remain civil.
The polarization of people is what I find disturbing during election times. People have a tendency to believe that if you disagree with someone, you have to dislike them. I find that some of the people I like the most are willing to let me know they think I am an idiot. It must be comfortable to find a political party that one could vote for without consideration, I find myself too schizophrenic for any one party to fill my political needs
