Hump N Bump Returns

By Stephanie Bunker

Moapa Valley Progress

A Hump N Bump participant from last year’s event does some extreme rock crawling in the Logandale Trails area. This year’s Hump N Bump will be held on Friday and Saturday this week.

The 32nd annual Hump n Bump is coming to town once again this weekend. Approximately 500 people will be showing up to enjoy the unique trails surrounding the Moapa Valley.

The Hump n Bump is a specialized event for off-road vehicles, mainly rock crawlers although there are some trails for 4-wheelers and stock 4 wheel drive vehicles.

The Hump n Bump has historically been held in different locations over the years. But it eventually settled at Logandale Trails about five years ago. At first it was just an outing with a few people camping out on the cement pad on the way to Red Rock. But it has grown to be a huge event based out of the Logandale Fairgrounds.

Vegas Valley 4 Wheelers gathers sponsors for the Hump n Bump. Their Presenting Sponsor this year will be Partners In Conservation (PIC.) PIC will be hosting a continental breakfast on Friday and Saturday morning as well as a scavenger hunt for the kids on Friday night.

“We have a vested interest in Logandale Trails,” said PIC Administrator Elise McAllister. “If you don’t step up and be locally involved you lose ownership in a way.”

Because there are so many people that come, events are planned to keep participants entertained. On Friday after the crawlers are finished with the trails the Logandale Volunteer Fire Department will present an arena off road challenge. The challenge is open to Hump N Bump participants or to anyone in the community who wants to give it a try. Admission is free for local spectators to come and watch. There will be several entertaining events and challenges at the Friday night fun which will be held in the field just south of the Logandale Fire Station beginning at 4:00 p.m.

On Saturday, the rock crawlers will be out on the 7 different trails. That evening there will be a catered dinner by John Mulls Road Kill Grill from Las Vegas. Dinner costs $18 per person, although it’s pricey Elise McAllister says the food is phenomenal! Recently the Road Kill Grill was featured on the Food Network.

After dinner there will be speakers and a bandstand. Following will be a raffle with $40,000 worth of prizes. They will be giving away accessories for jeeps, and 4x4s, bumpers, tires, and many more items. The money raised from the raffle is donated to organizations that support land use, these organizations include PIC, Tread Lightly, United 4 Wheel Drive Association, and Blue Ribbon Coalition.

The event is held on a busy weekend with the Pomegranate Festival simultaneously going on in the north end of the fair grounds. This will give the Hump n Bump participants something else to explore and gives the festival a boost as well.

The main reason the Hump N Bump is held the first week of November is because it’s the same weekend as the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Convention in Las Vegas where over 6,000 companies worldwide bring aftermarket equipment for off road and on road vehicles. The national and international press that covers SEMA often comes out to cover the Hump n Bump as well. At Your Leisure Television will be filming the whole event, it will also be covered in Crawl Magazine, 4-Wheel Drive and Sport Utility Magazine. Internationally, the event will also be covered by a French magazine called Action 4×4.
