Pomegranate Art Festival To Be Held This Weekend

A multitude of booths and vendors will greet attendees of the Moapa Valley Pomegranate And Art Festival which will be held this weekend at the Clark County Fairgrounds.

While you just missed the big October Pomegranate Festival in Goychay Azerbaijan, you have another chance for a fun-filled fall family trip to the Pomegranate Art Festival in Logandale. The 17th Annual Festival happens on this Friday and Saturday at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Logandale from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. There is plenty of parking and admission is free. (We love our dogs, but please leave them at home for this event)

There is so much to see and do at the Pomegranate Arts Festival. With over 75 exhibitors displaying their handmade art and handicrafts under outdoor tents and indoor booths, visitors can (and do) spend hours wandering about, marveling at the imaginative ways people transform cloth, wood, metal, glass, clay, and more into wild and wonderful clothes, toys, hats, art, quilts, dolls, and much more. It’s a treat to watch the artists at work creating their newest pieces and to have friendly chit-chats about the creations.

Of course there is food with vendors selling barbecue pork, kettle corn and corn dogs, tacos, funnel cakes, smoothies, and more.

Culinary students from the Moapa Valley High School cook up free treats usually using some form of pomegranate.

What is especially fun is hitting the many booths where one can sample many kinds of pomegranate jellies and other products. Besides there being deep red, pink, and white varieties of pomegranates to taste, be sure to try some of the more inventive concoctions such as Alligator Jelly or the famous “Bam Jam”!

There is lively, fun, and free entertainment throughout the two days including singers, dancers, fiddlers, cowboy poets, and more, with all of it provided by Moapa Valley individuals, families, and groups – it’s a great example of local talent.

Especially for the kids, there is a make-your-own-art booth called the “Art Attack Art Project” where a member of the Art Guild guide youngsters in creating their own art works. Here is where some of the most truly imaginative art is created each year!

Not only is the Pomegranate Art Festival a fun family event, the wide variety of handicrafts, art works, and pomegranate jellies, and other products make it a unique place to purchase holiday gifts. Ongoing raffle drawings means somebody wins something about every half hour and the prizes are substantial.

The Pomegranate Festival is organized by the Moapa Valley Art Guild and while everyone has fun, the event makes possible the guild’s annual art scholarships to local students and additional assistance to art programs in Moapa Valley Schools.

If you don’t make it to the Azerbaijan Festival next year, watch for this one again in 2013.
