The Mack Lyon Music Department is hosting its annual Fun Run/Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, February 9. The goal is to make this a community event while raising necessary funds for Mack Lyon Music students’ performance opportunities in May.
Disney performing arts series provides elementary, middle, and high school students with music to be performed in the background of a popular Disney film. The workshop involves improvisation, professionalism, teamwork, and audition tips from an esteemed conductor. At the end of the recording session (approximately 1.5 hours), the students listen to their creation. Their reactions are priceless. All their hard work from the last 2-3 years pays off with a take home recording showcasing their product.
Justine Crawford, the middle school band director, is a novice runner with a passion for healthy living. She decided to host a Fun Run event after participating in multiple running fundraisers throughout the last 5 years.
“Running events make it possible for people to get out and enjoy the fresh air while socializing with friends and family,” said Crawford. “It makes it easier to get out and get fit and it helps a good cause.”
The event will begin at the Moapa Valley High School at 9 a.m. on Saturday. There’s still time to register to run all three categories: 1mile, 5k, and 10k.
