Time To Sign Up For The Community-wide Yard Sale

By Stephanie Bunker

Moapa Valley Progress

Once again it’s time to start thinking about spring cleaning and getting rid of all that extra stuff around the house. Gather it up and set it out during the Valley Wide Yard Sale event hosted by the Moapa Valley Rotary Club.

For the first time in its eight years, this yard sale event will be extended over two days. It will be held on Friday March 15 from noon to 6:00 pm and then will continue all day on Saturday March 16.

The main site for the Rotary Club will be in the parking lot of Lin’s Marketplace. But many other sites will be held all over town. These sites are held by community members at their homes or at other locations.

Anyone interested in hosting a yard sale site contact Chris Green to register. Green can be reached at 398-3016 or by email at chris@mvdsl.com.

The cost for a site to be published on the master event map is $15 made payable to the Moapa Valley Rotary Club. This must be received by March 6 in order to be included on the map. Registration should include the address of the site, name listed, a small description of the site, and preferred days (Friday, Saturday or both.) A large map of the various yard sale sites will be published in the Moapa Valley Progress on March 13. It will also be available online.

Having the Valley Wide Yard Sale in this format makes it easier for the sellers, Green said. Instead of hauling all their merchandise from one place to another, it can be conveniently held outside of their own home.

The Senior Center is joining in on the festivities and will be serving breakfast as well as make available swap meet sites to vendors.

The Rotary Club decided to officially extend the event to two days due to popular demand.

“People would want to buy and sell on Friday and with our site in the Lin’s parking lot it was pretty much impossible to not sell items when we had all this merchandise that we needed to get rid of,” Green said.

The other sites will have the option of being open Friday and Saturday as well.

The $15 fee will go to advertising for the event in free newspapers throughout the region including the Pioneer Shopper, Big Nickel, El Tiempo, and El Mundo.
