Saturday, March 30, will be the Grand Opening of the Moapa Valley’s latest business, Big Daddy’s General Store.
After 25 years of working for Central Garden and Pet Company out of Atlanta, Georgia, Joe Bosilovick found himself looking for new experiences. The 5,000 or so miles a month he had traveled throughout Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah making contacts in major retailers and big box stores that carried lawn and gardening supplies is now paying off for him. With all this expertise, he and his wife, Claudia, settled in Overton.
They had been holding yard sales from their home each week selling overstocked or discontinued items obtained from these retailers at a sharp discount. What they did not know was that, by county code, they were only allowed to hold four yard sales at their home each year. More than that required a business license. When a complaint was made and an code enforcement officer showed up to issue a citation, Bosilovick decided to take it as an opportunity to expand his business.
A small, quaint building at 604 Moapa Valley Blvd. (across from the Water District Office) was available to fit the needs of the little store. The building is now open and filled with all types of outdoor and household products from tool kits to wooden chairs to landscape edging to bird baths. In addition, the thrifty shopper will be able to find DVDs, books, trampolines and paint power rollers among the many items available.
Joe advised that in the near future he will be offering various Southwest products such as custom saddles and tack.
Bosilovick stated that the store would be open Tuesday through Saturday, 8 am to 5 pm and would continue to carry and expand the many items in stock offered at affordable prices.
On Saturday the store will be holding drawings for many different prizes. The Bosilovicks will also be offering their customers cake and coffee to celebrate the opening.
