Rep. Steven Horsford made his first public appearance in the Moapa Valley, holding a town meeting on Saturday morning at the Overton Community Center. Though the meeting was open for discussion on any topic, the main focus was on the future of the Gold Butte region.

Big changes are underway for the schools in Moapa Valley. Ute Perkins Elementary School Principal Ken Paul is excited to be filling the position as principal at W. Mack Lyon Middle School in Overton. He will be replacing Rod Adams who has taken the position of principal at Moapa Valley High School.
The Nellis Airforce Base STARBASE Program came to Moapa last week to inspire local kids in the area of science.
Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade kids from local communities, and a few from Las Vegas, gathered at the Moapa Paiute Education Center to learn how cool science can be during the Center’s Education Week summer program.
The greater Moapa Valley community will be holding its annual Independence Day Celebration next Thursday, July 4 at the Logandale Fairgrounds.
Organizers have been working hard this year to involve the members of the community in the preparations, fundraising and activities on the day of the celebration.
It was an afternoon of learning about the outdoors and career opportunities on Tuesday, June 18, for members of the Latino Leadership Conference. About 50 high school kids stepped off the bus at the Moapa Valley Wildlife Refuge in Warm Springs.
The College of Southern Nevada in Moapa Valley is looking for new instructors for credited classes to begin in the spring semester of 2014. To teach these classes, CSN requires a Master’s degree in the desired subject.
Representative Steven Horsford deserves some due credit!
For the first time, Mr. Horsford came, in person, and met publicly with the folks of Moapa Valley. In that meeting, held Saturday, he formally presented the Reid/Horsford Bill on the future of Gold Butte to local residents. This was done two weeks after he introduced his version of the bill in the House of Representatives; and about a month after Sen. Harry Reid introduced a companion bill in the Senate.

We have a jobless rate that when figured properly exceeds that of the Great Depression (I am not sure what was so great about the depression but that is what the history books call the 1930’s in America). We are on the verge of losing another war, that is not a war, in the Middle East.
The Overton Power District Board of Directors, in a meeting held Wednesday, June 19, approved the district’s participation in a recently filed NV Energy transmission rate case. This case involves a proposed merger between Nevada Energy in southern Nevada and Sierra Pacific which services northern Nevada.
Elder James Randal Holland is returning with honor from the Scotland/Ireland Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints on June 26, 2013.
He will be speaking in the Overton 2nd Ward at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2013.
Elder Holland is the son of Marjorie Holland and Grandson of Betty Whitehead Willis, both of Overton, Nevada.
