A new family counseling practice opened earlier this summer in downtown Overton. Therapist Christy Cunningham, with Care Counseling, has brought psychotherapy services to assist and uplift residents in Moapa Valley.

The new practice is operating at 145 S. Moapa Valley Blvd. in the same office as the former Overton Psychological Services. Cunningham looks forward to providing her skills and expertise to those that need her help.

Care Counseling, a larger group in Las Vegas, will have two therapists available at the Overton location.

“Care Counseling is an agency that is looking to provide wrap around services for families and Psychosocial Rehabilitation,” Cunningham said.

As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Cunningham can offer services such as Individual Therapy & Counseling Marriage, Couples, or Relationship Counseling Family Therapy Mediation Online Counseling or Phone Therapy.

James Brittain, Marriage and Family Therapist Intern can also offer counseling for infidelity recovery, grief and loss, spousal abuse, anxiety and depression, self-esteem issues, past and current trauma, play therapy, behavioral/emotional difficulties in children and teens, and family transitions such as divorce or blended families. Psychosocial Rehabilitation services are also provided through Care Counseling.

“Overton does not have large therapy taking place and we would like to expand into the community,” Cunningham said.

Before she opened up Care Counseling in Overton, Cunningham spoke with individuals in the community and sent out a short survey to see if there was a need for therapy.

“We found that there are a lot of people with potential needs not being fully met,” she said.

Cunningham earned her Bachelors of Science degree at BIOLA University and attained her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with advanced certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Regis University in Las Vegas.

Cunningham has spent several years volunteering her time to help those around her.

“I have long been motivated to pursue a career path that involved helping others,” she said.

Throughout her years as a volunteer she spent 4 years in Northern Thailand teaching English. She has been to southern India, helping to build an orphanage, and brought basic health services to the children there.

After returning home Cunningham assisted others to do service projects in places such as Thailand, Mexico, and the Philippines. She also worked at the Las Vegas City Mission on a weekly basis and helped to clothe and feed the needy.
