Solar power generation was the main topic being discussed by the Overton Power District (OPD) Board of Trustees during a meeting held in Mesquite on Wednesday last week.
The Board heard a presentation from representatives of Nevada Renewable Systems, LLC (NRS), a company proposing to build a solar power plant on a parcel of land it owns atop Flat-top Mesa, just northwest of Mesquite.
The Moapa Valley township now has a new representative on its town board. Logandale resident Allen Johnson was appointed to fill a vacancy last week by the Clark County Board of Commissioners.
Johnson has lived in Logandale for the past ten years. He has spent nine of those years as a local officer for the Metropolitan Police Department. Johnson and his family moved here from Las Vegas where they had lived for 13 years and where he had previously worked as a Metro officer.
The Moapa Valley Performing Arts Council will begin it’s season on Monday, September 30 with the annual Moapa Valley Talent Showcase. It will be held in the Ron Dalley Theater at Moapa Valley High School at 7 p.m.
The American Legion Auxiliary is holding an emergency blood drive to help the community blood supply. Recent changes to the calendar have resulted in a shortage of over 700 life-saving units of blood. Every drop is needed to help patients here in Southern Nevada.

The Dirty Nasty Mud Race event will be held on this Saturday, September 28 in the vacant lot area just west of the Logandale Ballfield Complex.
Mud bog racing is an event where 4×4 trucks and ATVs make wide open runs across a 150 ft. pit of ankle-deep mud to see how far or how fast they can go. Saturday’s event is expected to bring mud racing enthusiasts from all over the region to Logandale to compete for cash and prizes.
Local Boy Scout, Kyle Payne is in the process of completing an Eagle Scout project that he hopes will benefit the Moapa Valley residents in greatest need. And he is asking local residents for help.
