A Great Weekend For Mud-Racing In Moapa Valley

The Dirty Nasty Mud Race event will be held on this Saturday, September 28 in the vacant lot area just west of the Logandale Ballfield Complex.

Mud bog racing is an event where 4×4 trucks and ATVs make wide open runs across a 150 ft. pit of ankle-deep mud to see how far or how fast they can go. Saturday’s event is expected to bring mud racing enthusiasts from all over the region to Logandale to compete for cash and prizes.

The event will start early on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. with an Automotive Swap Meet. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come down and try to sell or barter with automotive parts and accessories. The Swap Meet is free to the public; both buyers and sellers.

Registration for race participants will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until noon. Registration is open to anyone who has an appropriate truck or other vehicle and is up to the challenge.

“Please don’t be shy!” said event organizer Larry Skaggs to local truck owners. “The mud’s not that deep. If you have it, bring it and race it. You’ll have a great time!”

There will be several amateur classes that will fit any experience level. These include ATV classes for both adults and children as well as stock 4×4 classes for both men and women. Racers under 18 must have parents sign a waiver. And, of course, there will be professional classes for the seasoned competitors.

Entry fees will range from $10 for most of the ATV classes, to $35 for the 4×4 trucks and sandrails.

Those who aren’t entering vehicles are invited to attend as spectators. The gates to the racing event will open at 11:00 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the gate at $12 for adults and $8 for kids ages 6-12. Kids under six enter free.

Attendees can also purchase pit passes for an additional $5. These passes will allow entry into the pit area to get up close and personal with the vehicles and their owners.

Local barbecue vendor Rik Eide of Great Basin Foods will be set up at the event to sell food to the crowds.

Local business sponsors for the event include America First Credit Union, Simplot Silica, McDonald’s of Overton, 4 Sheel Parts, Overton NAPA, Law Powersports, ATV Cycle Sports, Motorcycle Tire Center, Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza, Eureka Hotel & Casino, Awesomeadventuresnews.com, itsamudthing.com, MV Telephone, MV Water District, Sugars, American Family Insurance, Lin’s Marketplace and Mesquite Motorsports.

All proceeds of the Dirty Nasty Mud Race will go to the Moapa Valley Fire District to benefit the three local volunteer fire departments. In addition to the fundraiser, the event is meant to encourage community members to consider becoming a volunteer firefighter or EMT in the community. Volunteers are currently being sought at all three local stations.

For Saturday’s event, community volunteers are still needed to help with various logistics on the event day. Those interested in volunteering can contact Larry Skaggs at 702-279-1040.
