Local Scout Asks For Help In Achieving High Goal

Local Boy Scout, Kyle Payne is in the process of completing an Eagle Scout project that he hopes will benefit the Moapa Valley residents in greatest need. And he is asking local residents for help.

Payne has set a goal of gathering 1,000 pounds of non-perishable food donations to restock the food pantry at Cappalappa Family Resource Center in Overton.

“I found out that there was a great need to fill the shelves at the Cappalappa food pantry,” Payne said. “There are many in the community in need and there isn’t enough food there to meet those needs.”

So Payne decided to take on this challenge as his Eagle Project. He is asking local businesses and residents in the Moapa Valley to help in reaching his 1,000 pound goal.

Payne explained that he has set out drop boxes for food donations at Lin’s Marketplace in Overton and at the office of American Family Insurance in the Wally’s Plaza at Logandale. In addition, donations can be taken directly to Cappalappa Family Resource Center, Payne said.

“I would just ask that you tell them that it is for Kyle Payne’s Eagle project so I can keep track,” he said.

In addition, Payne has organized a “Food Drive Challenge” at Grant Bowler Elementary School. He has challenged the children to bring in food items to their classrooms this week. The various classrooms will compete to see which one will bring the most donations. The winning class will receive a prize.

Finally, Payne plans on setting up a table outside of Lin’s Marketplace on Saturday to collect donations and encourage Lin’s customers to help in his cause.

Payne’s project will continue through October 4.
