A Week Of Fun Planned For MVHS Homecoming

By STEPHANIE BUNKER

Moapa Valley Progress

Homecoming week! It is a time for the alumni of Moapa Valley High School to come home and feel the Pirate Pride once more. MVHS students have a lineup of activities planned to keep the Pirate spirit alive.

Vice Principal Pledger Solomon is excited about the week of activities. “I expect it to go well,” he said. “The staff is excited and this is going to be a great homecoming year.”

Some of the festivities have already taken place. On Monday the students came to school dressed up as superheroes. In the evening they all got together to paint homecoming signs which were displayed around the school for the rest of the week. On Tuesday night, the girls had their chance to get aggressive as they played Powder-puff football. More coverage on these events will be found in next week’s Progress.

Today (Wednesday) the students will be wearing pink to remember Breast Cancer Awareness Day. This evening a tailgate party BBQ will held for the students and staff who are working on the floats in preparation for this week’s Homecoming parade. Freshman and JV football teams will also be playing games that night. The BBQ will be held in the parking lot by the shop at the high school.

On Thursday, the community is encouraged to attend the Homecoming Parade and Assembly. The parade begins at 5:00 p.m. and will highlight many of the school’s clubs, sports, and associations. The Homecoming Candidates will get to sit in fancy cars and the Royalty will show off their class’s float for that year. The parade route will begin on Yamashita just east of the football field, turn west onto Wittwer, and then south onto St. Joseph. The procession will then turn east onto Paul and then enter into the high school parking lot near the tennis courts. It will pass through the round-about in front of the school and end in the northern parking lot.

Immediately after the parade, the crowd will congregate into the school gymnasium for the Homecoming Assembly where the Homecoming Queen and King will be crowned.

More Homecoming festivities will be celebrated on Friday night prior to the football game against Boulder City. The parade floats will take a final circuit around the track and the marching band will make a grand entrance into the stadium. The Football game will begin at 7:00 p.m..

The students will continue to celebrate on Saturday evening with a Homecoming Dance to be held in the Old Overton Gym.
