Around 200 people packed into the Moapa Recreation center gym on Friday night for the Perkins Elementary School Fall Festival. The fundraiser event was organized by the school’s Parent Teacher Organization.

The grand hall at the Old Logandale School was decked with sparkling excitement and holiday cheer last weekend for the annual Moapa Valley Festival of Trees.
The event was held a bit earlier in the season than it has in the past.
The Overton Power District (OPD) Board of Directors last week heard a presentation from local teachers regarding a program that might help raise funds for sports and academic programs at area high schools.
The Moapa Valley Water District Board of Directors received a report on its financial audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2013 during a board meeting held Thursday last week. Chad Atkinson of auditing firm Hinton, Burdick, Hall & Sprinkler explained that the audit report had been quite favorable.
Moapa Parks and Recreation staff got creative when they organized the Turkey Bowling event this year. It has been a tradition, in years past. to play a game with a frozen turkey close to Thanksgiving time. The last 2 years they have done the Turkey Toss, where the kids see who can toss the turkey the farthest.

In her first local production, MV High School Drama Teacher Valerie Soltis decided to continue bringing the classics to the audience and to her students.
No one asked me but… The event Americans celebrate on the fourth Thursday in November traditionally brings to mind the Thanksgiving celebrated by the Pilgrims with the Native Americans at Plymouth in 1621. In the midst of hardships, the Pilgrims stopped to give thanks to God.
