The Spooks Come Out For Trunk Or Treat

Ghosts, ghouls, and witches galore! The Parks and Rec Halloween Party was a spooky success on Halloween Night last week.

Kids and parents flocked to the Logandale Fairgrounds to gather candy from trunk after trunk provided by local businesses and individuals.

The problem was that the trunks got visited so many times they ran out of candy later in the event! John Stastny Parks and Rec Coordinator reported that running out of candy is a reoccurring problem every year.

“It was going good but it has died off,” said Parks and Rec intern Spencer Winzenreid. “We can only give until we can’t give anymore.”

Everyone still had a great time with the many activities available for the kids. The Thompson family of Logandale brought their climbing rock wall and water balls for the kids to roll around in. In addition there was the bounce house: always a hit with the little ones. There was a good turnout of trunks this year, with some very scary decorations.

“I enjoy Halloween and seeing the different costumes and kids,” said Logandale resident Mark Harding who brought an especially elaborate and spooky trunk display. “I like to see the kid’s faces.”

This is the reason many people like to bring their trunks and give out candy. Mike and Janet Warner just moved to Moapa Valley earlier in the month and when they heard about the trunk or treat they had to be involved.

“I love seeing the kids and costumes,” said Janet Warner. “They are all so innocent and filled with joy being out and dressing up.”

She found that there was a much better turn out this year. She said that she likes the annual Trunk or Treat event because it is a safe place for families to bring the kids.

The scariest thing of all was the Spook Alley hosted by National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and Beta Club at Mack Lyon Middle School. The Spook Alley was also coordinated by by Gail Lindsey of Parks and Rec.

Lindsey said that she has been putting together Halloween Spook Alleys for the last 20 years. She started off staging them in Overton Fire Station 74 and then continued with them in the Animal Pavilion at the Fairgrounds. Although these were both great locations, she said that she finds the snack shed on the Plaza Stage to be an ideal location because it is more manageable.

Lindsey started building the alley on Monday with help from the students. Getting characters in the spook alley that make it come to life is the hard thing, she said. She appreciates the support given by NJHS students.

“They come in and run it and that’s what’s great,” she said.
